It was historic day for Oyo State Culture and Tourism Ministry on 23rd October, 2023 as Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde signed into Law an Executive Order establishing the ministry. The Ministry which was carved out of then Oyo State Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism in OmiTuntun 1.0.

The establishment of the Ministry with the legal backing by Governor Makinde will no doubt boost Oyo State’s internally generated revenue, employment generation, attraction of investors, increase global outlook of rich Oyo cultural heritage among others.

As a governor with penchant for Tourism, Engr Makinde understands that economic expansion agenda under OmiTuntun 2.0 can be driven through tourism development.

Countries that have invested in tourism sector are reaping the benefits of their huge investment. Oyo State cannot afford to be backbenchers among states that are harnessing the potential in their culture and tourism sector.

Worthy of note in this development is the practical role played by Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun who oversees, formulates and execute day-to-day running of the then Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism.

How is managed himself, resources and time to achieve remarkable feat for the Ministry without undermining each strand of the sector. Dr. Olatunbosun provided leadership spirit required to navigate the long ocean. Dr Olatunbosun’s native intelligence and raw understanding of culture and tourism gave him a necessary platform to fit in immediately he was pronounced Commissioner for Culture and Tourism under OmiTuntun 2.0.

His commitment to Governor Makinde’s vision for Oyo State and outstanding performance he recorded during the then Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism is enough to convince Governor Makinde that Culture and Tourism Ministry deserves legal backing by signing Executive Order establishing the ministry.

Since Dr. Olatunbosun assumed duty as Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, people are more informed about the tourism potential in Oyo State which in convincing enough to aspiring investors to knock on Oyo’s doors for partnership.

Through the newly created platform ‘Akede Asa’, people are more informed about the rich cultural heritage of each and everyone in Oyo State. From Ogbomoso to Oyo town down to Oke-Ogun, Ibarapa down to Ibadan, people are more. informed about their culture.
