The House of Representatives candidate for Oyo Federal Constituency under the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Barrister Seun Temilolu Nurudeen Ashamu, has congratulated Nigerians, particularly the people of Oyo State, on the occasion of the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.

In a statement released on Thursday, Barrister Ashamu noted that June 12 remains a significant symbol of the nation’s democratic journey, sacrifice, and collective commitment to good governance. He, however, observed that this year’s celebration comes at a time when many families in Oyo State are still grappling with security concerns, especially following the recent kidnapping incident in Orire Local Government Area.

The APM chieftain expressed deep sympathy to the parents, relatives, and loved ones of those affected by the unfortunate incident, praying for strength and comfort for the families. He stressed that the pain and anxiety experienced by the victims and their relations are shared by all well-meaning citizens of the state.
Barrister Ashamu also commended the efforts of the Federal Government, Oyo State Government, and security agencies for their swift response and commitment toward securing the release of the abducted persons. He particularly praised the professionalism, courage, and sacrifices of security operatives working tirelessly to protect lives and maintain peace across the state.
While appreciating the progress made so far, he appealed to government at all levels not to relent in addressing security challenges confronting communities. According to him, sustained investment in intelligence gathering, security infrastructure, and community policing remains essential to safeguarding lives and property.
“As we celebrate Democracy Day, let us renew our commitment to unity, peace, and collective responsibility. A secure and prosperous society can only be built when government and citizens work together for the common good,” Ashamu stated.
He further urged residents of Oyo State to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and continue to support initiatives aimed at strengthening peace and development across the state
