BY ENGR OLUSINA OLAPOJU.

It is with deep pain and disappointment that we watch Hon. Abass Agboworin declare his intention to seek a third term to represent Ibadan South-East and North-East Federal Constituency.

After seven years in the House of Representatives, what is there to celebrate? What is there to build a third term campaign upon?

A constituency that should be proud of its representative is today struggling to point to meaningful impact. Our roads remain in bad shape. Our youths remain jobless. Our women remain unsupported. Our communities remain forgotten in the sharing of federal dividends.

Representation is not about occupying a seat in Abuja. Representation is about being a voice. It is about standing up on the floor of the House, moving motions that address the suffering of your people, sponsoring bills that change lives, and attracting projects that transform communities.

For seven years, Ibadan South-East and North-East has not felt that kind of bold and effective representation. And that is why this third term bid is an embarrassment — an embarrassment because it shows a lack of self-assessment, an embarrassment because it insults the intelligence of the people, and an embarrassment because it suggests that failure can be rewarded with another four years.

Ibadan is not a place without capable people. We have educated, vibrant, courageous men and women who can speak for us with confidence and deliver results with integrity. Why then should we settle for less?

We are not saying this out of hate. We are saying it out of love for our constituency. We love Ibadan South-East. We love Ibadan North-East. And because we love it, we refuse to watch it remain stagnant while others move forward.

Seven years is enough. Two terms is enough. The people deserve a fresh start, a new voice, and a new vision.

In the coming election, let us reject stagnation and choose progress. Let us reject silence and choose a voice. Let us reject embarrassment and choose pride.

Ibadan South-East / North-East deserves better.
