The senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District and Chairman, Senate Committee on Environment, Dr Yunus Akintunde has launched two million naira (N2million) revolving loan at zero interest for traders under “Traders Support Initiative” for constituents in the eleven (11) Local Government Areas in his senatorial district.

The initiative is aimed at strengthen the capital base of entrepreneurs, market men and women as well as petty traders considering the economic realities in the country. The traders in Ojoo market in Akinyele LGA became the first beneficiaries of the scheme where the initiative was launched.

At the event, Senator Akintunde was represented by his Special Adviser, Hon. Adam Yaro. Hon. Yaro conveyed the senator’s message to beneficiaries highlighting the goal of the initiative.

According to Hon. Yaro; “This revolving loan initiative will enable petty traders to access much-needed funds, which will be recycled within the market community as each loan is repaid. This model ensures that the benefits extend far beyond the first round of beneficiaries, leading to sustained growth,”

Beneficiaries in their large number expressed their appreciation for the initiative and its potential to improve their businesses.

Mrs. Serifat Rasidi, one of the traders, said, “This loan come at the perfect time. It will allow me to expand my business and better serve my customers. Senator Akintunde has given us hope, and I’m very grateful.”

Mr. Muideen Ademola added, “The revolving loan program is exactly what traders like me needs. It’s a brilliant idea, and I’m thankful to Senator Akintunde for this support, which will undoubtedly help us grow.”

Mrs. Samuel Aderonke also shared her excitement, stating, “An interest-free loan is a rare opportunity for small traders. Senator Akintunde has created a lifeline for us, and I can only express my deepest gratitude.”

In addition to the loan initiative, Hon. Murphy Adigun Ahmed, speaking on behalf of the market traders, requested further infrastructural support for Ojoo Market. “We are grateful for this loan initiative, but we also request more solar lights for the market. This will improve security and trading conditions, especially in the evenings,” he said.

The traders and market leaders believe that the installation of additional solar lights will help extend business hours, ensuring that the market remains a bustling center of commerce even after dark.

Several political leaders in Oyo Central Senatorial District commended Senator Akintunde for his dedication to supporting the grassroots economy.

Alhaji Mukaila Ambali, a prominent leader in the district, praised the senator, saying, “Senator Akintunde has always demonstrated a deep commitment to the welfare of the people. This loan initiative is just one example of his efforts to uplift the traders and support the local economy.”

The CRC to Senator Yunus Akintunde, Hon. Femi Akintunde echoed similar remarks, adding, “Senator Akintunde’s focus on empowering small businesses show his dedication to our community. We are proud to have a leader who truly care about the people and their needs.”

The Baba Oja (Market Leader), Alhaji Abdullah, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the traders and market leaders. “We are incredibly thankful to Senator Akintunde for this initiative. This loan program will help improve the lives of traders in Ojoo Market, and we will continue to support him in all his future political endeavors,” he said.
