The Acting President of UIAA Worldwide, Dr. Terrumun Hembaor Gajir, expressed sadness over the gruesome murder of Prof. Gabriel Sawaau Nyityo and condemned the killing in the strongest terms, describing it as a wicked and senseless act.
“The entire University of Ibadan community has been thrown into wailing and mourning since the news of Prof. Nyityo’s death filtered in this morning. This is a painful tragedy and an irreplaceable loss. We condemn this heinous act and pray that those behind this evil will never know peace. May justice prevail,” he said.
Dr. Gajir noted that Prof. Nyityo’s tenure as President of the Association was marked by unwavering commitment, selfless leadership and an enduring passion for strengthening the bond among alumni across the world.
Also mourning the late academic, a former President of UIAA Worldwide, Prof. Kemi Emina, described the assassination as shocking and difficult to comprehend.

“I have just heard the tragic news of the assassination of our erstwhile President, Prof. Gabriel S. Nyityo, in his Makurdi residence. What an evil act! What could possibly have been the motivation for killing Prof. Nyityo and his brother?” she lamented.
Prof. Emina prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the deceased and asked God to grant their family the strength to bear the painful loss.
Across various alumni platforms, members of the University of Ibadan Alumni Association Worldwide expressed disbelief and sorrow over the tragic development, with many describing Prof. Nyityo as a gentleman, an intellectual of uncommon distinction and a bridge-builder whose contributions to the Association would never be forgotten.

Several alumni noted that it was almost impossible to believe that a man who devoted his life to scholarship, service and humanity could meet such a violent end.
As condolences continue to pour in from within and outside Nigeria, members of the University of Ibadan community have called on security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation into the killings and ensure that those responsible are identified and brought to justice.
The late Prof. Gabriel Sawaau Nyityo leaves behind a remarkable legacy of scholarship, exemplary leadership and dedicated service to the University of Ibadan Alumni Association Worldwide, a legacy many alumni say will continue to inspire generations of UItes.
