What a joke! What an irony! What a double-faced politics!
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, the same governor who strongly opposed Local Government Autonomy granted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and backed by Supreme Court, the same governor who is fighting tirelessly to keep Local Government funds in his pocket, now wants the same Federal Government he condemned every day to pay him N250 Billion NLNG fund.
A man with just a few months to end his disastrous 8-year tenure, a tenure marked by failed promises, abandoned Agbowo Shopping Complex, debt-ridden Oyo State, and bastardisation of markets, gluttonous wants more money to take home despite keeping N30b relief funds for Bodija explosion.
THE LG AUTONOMY ENEMY:
Nigerians will recall that when President Tinubu fought for and secured financial autonomy for the 774 Local Governments in Nigeria to free them from the grip of overbearing Governors, Governor Makinde was among the loudest opponents.
He publicly kicked against it. He mobilized his colleagues to oppose it. Why? Because he wants to continue controlling LG money. He wants caretaker chairmen as his puppets. He does not want development at the grassroots. He wants all the money to remain under his purview as the landlord of Agodi Government House.
A governor who does not believe in autonomy for Local Governments want autonomy for himself from the Federation Account.
MAKINDE BEGGING THE SAME FG HE CONDEMNED OPENLY
Every week, Governor Makinde mounts the podium to condemn the Federal Government. He condemned Tinubu’s reforms. He rubbished economic policies. He played to the gallery without caution.
Yet, behind closed doors, he is begging the same Federal Government to pay him N250 Billion from the NLNG funds.
If the Federal Government is so bad, why are you begging it for N250bn? If Tinubu’s government has failed, why do you want money from a failed government?
Gov Makinde condemned the FG in the morning, and goes to Abuja in the evening to beg for more allocation. What a contradiction!
MAKINDE WANTS MORE TAKE-HOME FOR HIS LAST LAP:
With a few months to the end of his disastrous tenure, Governor Makinde knows the game is up. Oyo people have seen through his audio projects and borrowed shine.
Now he wants N250bn take-home fund. For what? To finance what project in less than 8 months? To do what he could not do in 7 years?
Oyo people are wise. They know this N250bn is not for them. It is for last-minute looting, last-minute sharing, and last-minute preparation for his selfish presidential ambition.
A governor who says the Federal Government is taking too much is now asking for more from the same Government. He opposes LGs getting their money, but wants FG to give him more.
A REAL JOKE:
Seyi Makinde is a real joke. A governor who killed Local Government autonomy but wants financial autonomy for himself. A governor who condemned Tinubu but cannot survive without Tinubu’s FAAC.
Oyo State does not need N250bn NLNG fund in the hands of a departing governor. Oyo State needs accountability for the hundreds of billions already collected and wasted.
