Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state addressed Nigerians yesterday and it rained cats and dogs, but, even at that, he still lost the services of his Deputy Chief of Staff, Segun Ogunwuyi, early, on Monday morning.

Chief Segun Ogunwuyi

Someone once told me that I should take note that any time Governor Makinde schedules a program, it must rain and once the rain keeps falling, Makinde is assured of victory.

He was telling me in plain terms that the Governor of Oyo state is in possession of certain diabolical powers associated with the rain and that once the rain keeps falling for the Governor, he remains unbeatable.

I remember asking him about what became of “Aagberi Oga,” the one who was reputed to have possessed immense diabolic powers. I also asked him about ” Aroni”.

I am an African man. A Yorùbá for that matter. I know that there are diabolic powers, but I also know that they have their limitations and expiry periods.

In this case, I am convinced that a good character helps a man more than baskets of diabolic powers.

If you’re aspiring for a position in the society and you visit a herbalist who assisted you in making a charm that will draw the hearts of the people towards you, ( awure)but you are lacking in character, your bad character is enough to spoil the efficacy of the charm.

That is why Yorubas would always say, ” iwa loba awure”.

Like I said, Makinde’s Chief of Staffs, Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi resigned from his Cabinet this morning.

Honestly, I am not surprised. I expect many more of the Governor’s Aides to resign from the Cabinet in the coming days and months before the election.

It’s a sinking ship and no wise person would stay in a ship destined for wreckage, most especially, when they have the opportunity of jumping out of the ship before it wrecks.

It is Chinua Achebe, who, in one of his books, said that, if you say twenty people are bad, you are the one who really needs to look at yourself, because, actually, you are the one who is bad.

I have been warning the Governor and his followers for a very long time but they would not listen to me.

I remember the title of one of my stories, Babylon is crumbling “. I predicted that, Governor Makinde’s political empire was crumbling at the time and that, it will ultimately fall.

I do not know of a man who can survive under the toxic atmosphere Governor Makinde had created around himself.

Failed promises, arrogance, greed, chains of betrayal and the inability to sustain relationships are poisonous character traits and when a man carries so much of their venom, it becomes poisonous, even to his own heart.

I can boldly say that most of the grassroots supporters who are still with Governor Makinde are with him because of the Local Government elections promised for December, 2026.

Unfortunately and I have been warning them, that election will not hold.

I do not doubt Governor Makinde’s penchant for reckless actions. Against all odds, he could still want to go ahead, but I can also boldly say, that heads or tails, whatever is conducted in the name of a Local Government election this December will go to no issue.

When we were younger, there was this folksong we used to sing when we gathered to play. ( Eni oro ku mo lori ko se ba jeyan ale…). I don’t know why the oro deity was connected with that folksong, but, we still sang happily to it any time we had reasons to mock someone who, perhaps, failed to react quickly to circumstances.

The Allied People’s Movement, APM keeps bleeding and there is no antidote to stop the bleeding.

It will bleed to death even if it rains everyday from now till next year January.

I congratulate Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi. He is a vibrant young man who still have a lot going for him and for those who are yet, undecided, the time to escape is now. The window of opportunities is closing very quickly.
