The Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, University of Ibadan has appointed new dean to steer the leadership of the Faculty.

Professor of Akanni Olayinka Lawanson, Department of Economics is the new dean of the Faculty .
He holds a Ph.D. (Economics) degree, with areas of expertise in Microeconomics, Health Economics, and Quantitative Analysis, with over two decades of research and teaching.
He holds a First Class (Honours) Bachelor of Education degree in Educational Management/Economics. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Economics, all from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.
He was Acting Head of Department of Accounting in the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, University of Ibadan between 2020 and 2022.
Professor Lawanson played active roles in the estimation of the first two rounds of National Health Accounts for Nigeria, and has been involved in various research studies sponsored by WHO; UNFPA; SickKids Centre for Global Child Health, Canada; Federal Ministry of Health; World Bank; African Development Bank Group; Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; Economic and Social Research Council; and African Economic Research Consortium, Nairobi, Kenya.
He has twice (2003 and 2010) been to the International Monetary Fund under the Visiting Scholar Fellowship Programme at the IMF Headquarters in Washington DC, USA.
Professor Lawanson has risen through the academic ranks, with notable contributions to the academia, and has also served in various administrative roles before his election as Dean, Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, University of Ibadan, a position he assumed on 1 August 2026.
