Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has emerged as the National Leader of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) at the party’s National Convention held in Bauchi on Thursday, as the party steps up efforts to build a formidable political platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In his speech, Governor Mohammed praised the leadership and members of the APM for the confidence placed in him, even as he promised to work closely with other national leaders to strengthen the Party and build a party capable of meeting the expectations of Nigerians.
He, however, pledged his continued support for the Party’s presidential candidate, Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, describing his emergence as an opportunity to present Nigerians with a credible political alternative.
Governor Mohammed added that the combination of Makinde and the party’s Vice-Presidential Candidate, former Director-General of the Department of State Services, Alhaji Lawal Daura, offered a blend of experience and expertise needed to confront some of the country’s most pressing challenges, particularly insecurity and economic hardship.
He stressed that the APM would pursue an inclusive political agenda capable of bringing together Nigerians from different regions, backgrounds and interests, while placing national development above partisan considerations.
Also speaking at the convention, APM presidential candidate and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, congratulated Governor Bala Mohammed and the newly elected national officers of the party.

Makinde maintained that a vibrant and credible opposition was vital to the survival and growth of Nigeria’s democracy.
He called on the APM to collaborate with other opposition forces in presenting Nigerians with a genuine alternative ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, the 2027 election should be about tangible results rather than slogans, political announcements and unfulfilled promises.
Makinde challenged political leaders to clearly demonstrate how their policies would translate into better lives for ordinary Nigerians through employment opportunities, quality education and healthcare, improved security, increased agricultural productivity and greater economic prospects for young people.
The Oyo governor further called for a stronger federal structure through the devolution of powers and resources, arguing that governance becomes more effective when decisions affecting citizens are taken closer to the people.
He said the APM would champion a new political culture rooted in trust, accountability, measurable programmes and constructive opposition, stressing that political differences should never degenerate into personal hostility or turn political opponents into enemies.
In his remarks, the National Chairman of the APM, Alhaji Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, reaffirmed the party’s determination to establish a strong and nationwide political structure capable of competing effectively in 2027.
Dantalle said the party would continue to attract Nigerians and political leaders who share its commitment to national development, democratic principles, integrity and selfless service.
He expressed confidence that with the emergence of its new leadership and the growing support for its political agenda, the APM would position itself as a credible and formidable alternative in Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
