The Allied People’s Movement, APM, Oyo State chapter scheduled Wednesday, June 17, to unveil Engr Muftau Open Salawu as the running-mate of its gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi.
A statement signed by Michael Ogunsina Publicity Secretary of Oyo State PDP confirmed the development. Ogunsina said the unveiling ceremony of Engr Salawu will take place at the Oyo State PDP Secretariat, Oke-Ado, Ibadan.
Below is the short biography of the Ogbomoso-born politician
Engr. Muftau Open Salawu, FNSE, FNICE is a Civil Engineer, entrepreneur, and seasoned administrator. Born on 10th May 1973 into the Alapa Ruling House at Isale Ora, Ita Alasa, Ogbomoso North, Oyo State.
He holds Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State. He also trained in Leading Complex Capital Projects at Harvard University, Boston, USA, and Leading Change for Organisational Transformation at London Business School, UK.

Engr. Open Salawu began his engineering career with D’Alberto & Giampoli before joining the Federal Capital Development Authority in 1998 as project staff. He was part of the team that upgraded rural health centres in Kuje, Gwagwalada, Kwali, Nyanya, Karu, Ruboch, Kubwa, and Karishi to full hospitals, and also worked on the take-off team for 2,000 resettlement housing units across the FCT. He later worked with Engr. G.O. Akinjo’s a senior partner in Etteh Aro and partners and served as Facilities Manager at Thomas Adewumi International College, Kwara State, before founding Opinior Engineering Company Ltd in 2006.
Under his leadership, Opinior Engineering has grown over 20 years into one of Nigeria’s leading real estate firms. The company has developed 11 estates nationwide, delivering over 1,000 housing units.
In 2019, at the request of the then Oyo State Governor, he stepped down for the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly and was appointed Special Adviser on Works and Transport. After His Excellency Governor Seyi Makinde’s re-election for a second term, he was appointed Executive Assistant on Project Monitoring. On 9th May 2024, following the signing into law of the Oyo State Project Performance Monitoring Agency, he was appointed its pioneer Chairman.
He holds the traditional titles of Babalaje of Ogbomosoland, Giwa Adini of Oyo State, and Waziri Jari Nupe. He is married with children.
