Sometimes, Governor Seyi Makinde provides amusement, even, without him knowing. On the day that Muslims celebrated Eid, I saw a video of him inside a vehicle.
In the video, he congratulated Muslim faithfuls for the celebration and mixed his greetings with some incoherent political statements.
He said, regarding the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP crisis, people should not be bothered because God is at work.
When I heard him mixing his greetings to the Muslims with some political stuffs, I thought he should have just sent out his greetings without mixing it up with some ambiguous political statements but it’s Governor Makinde we are talking about here.
I don’t think he is capable of addressing simple matters without dressing up his ego.
Whatever message he was trying to pass regarding the PDP on that day, for me, it conveyed no meaning.
God has always been at work.
Psalm 121 verse 4 testifies to the fact that God never slumbers and neither does He sleep but God is not mocked.
You can not be acting in an ungodly manner and at the same time pontificate about God when nemesis comes calling.
It was yesterday night that I got to know that Governor Makinde recorded that video on his way to Igbeti where it was reported that he celebrated with some security personnel.
A Facebook user had posted that Governor Makinde went to Igbeti to serve rice to some security personnel instead of him to fulfill the pledge of purchasing two aircrafts.
When I saw the post, I laughed my heart out.
Honestly, it’s like Governor Seyi Makinde is underestimating the consequences of his misadventures in National politics.
If it were before, his trip to Igbeti would have flooded the front pages of major newspapers.
Infact, the pictures of him serving rice to security personnel, if indeed, he served rice, would have attracted beautiful captions on the front pages but, who cares again?
Attention is gradually shifting away from him and that is the sad reality of life.
Pa. JF Odunjo talked about it in one of his admonitions ( akosori).
He talked about the fate of the rich man who became poor. ( Je ki o di eni ti nrago, ki o rii bi aye ti nyinmu si o).
Unlike before when Governor Makinde is himself news, now, he must create news by himself and I see that he has created one already.
Yesterday, I read a report which says that the Governor has set up a Committee saddled with the responsibilities of screening gubernatorial aspirants under the PDP in Oyo state.
My first reaction to that report was to wonder why the Governor would secretly set up such a Committee.
This is a Governor Makinde who put his chest out, beating it and saying, look, I will announce my successor by January of 2026.
So cocksure, he boasted further that anyone beyond a particular age bracket would not succeed him.
Having failed to deliver on that bold promise, shouldn’t the Governor have told us that he has realized his mistakes and is now prepared to correct them one way or the other?
I am also surprised that Governor Makinde is prioritizing the issue of gubernatorial candidate over and above the fact that he has lost everything to Nyesom Wike.
Presently, the legally recognized structures of the PDP in Oyo state is that headed by the former Deputy Governor of Oyo state, Hanzim Gbolarunmi.
Gbolarunmi is an ally of Nyesom Wike.
Not only that, Nyesom Wike and his followers have insisted on going ahead with the holding of a National Convention of the PDP between the 29th and 30th of March, this year.
According to reports, former Governor of Jigawa state, Sule Lamido and many stakeholders across the country have been aligning with the Wike Group and they would be part of the National Convention.
It is obvious that Nyesom Wike and his followers will not shift grounds on the holding of a National Convention and many of the PDP stakeholders have accepted that reality.
So, what is left for Governor Seyi Makinde?
Governor Makinde’s dilemma goes beyond the travails of Padre Michael. ( Idaamu Paadi Minkailu).
It is akin to the fate of a particular hapless herbalist whose wife was taken, his instruments of divination also taken by a dog and when he tried to chase the dog so as to retrieve his instruments of divination, the dog fell into a well. ( A koo nifa, a gbaa lobinrin, opele ti o ba tun fi too, aja tun gbee..).
When I kept saying that Governor Makinde is confused, a lot of people would not understand.
When someone has successfully built himself as someone who would never ever compromise on his ego and belief and he is tasting a crushing defeat that is capable of making him eat his words, he is bound to be confused.
Governor Seyi Makinde has never been this defeated and humiliated in his political career.
You may not agree with me now, but it’s just a matter of days left for everyone to see that in the battle of ego between Governor Makinde and Nyesom Wike, the winner has taken all while the loser has lost everything.
The screening Committee is just a diversion just like the reconciliation moves.
Honestly, I pity whosoever is still caught in the sinking ship with Governor Seyi Makinde.
The 2026 Electoral Act is unforgiving and it doesn’t play with time.
It appears like Governor Makinde is still yet to see the document, if he hasn’t and is interested in having one, I volunteer to oblige him a hard copy free of charge.
I am surprised that Governor Makinde did not name Seye Famojuro as the sole Committee member to screen the gubernatorial aspirants.
I am wondering, is such responsibility below or above the ‘ Ejika’?
Assuming the Committee come up with a suitable candidate today, under which political party will he be presented?
According to information in the press, the Wike Group have embarked on a new registration exercise.
I hope you know what that means?
Will the registration exercise that is supervised by Gbolarunmi capture Governor Makinde and his followers?
What will be the consequences of not being registered as a member of the PDP?
I pity those who are screening gubernatorial aspirants and those who are being screened.
Governor Makinde and his followers are completely at the mercy of the Nyesom Wike Group and instead of a screening Committee, a Committee saddled with the responsibilities of massaging Wike’s ego would have been more appropriate.
It is either Governor Makinde begs to be accommodated or he leaves the PDP for the winner of the contest.
I believe that the Governor must have learnt some bitter lessons from his needless conflicts with those who assisted him to become what he is today.
He must have also realized now that while some Deities are capable of giving children to a barren woman, they won’t hesitate to take the children back once agreements are violated.
Governor Makinde’s problems are not only his ego and self admitted stubbornness, he is also surrounded by a lot of mediocre and sycophants.
The few people around him, who are known to be firm must have been frustrated as a result of his unyielding posture.
I am always amused each time I see some funny fellows, trying to defend Governor Makinde on WhatsApp platforms.
A lot of people out there do not know the true character of Governor Seyi Makinde.
They are being deceived by his looks.
Prince Diran Odeyemi have been shedding some light about Governor Makinde’s true characters recently.
I have heard unconfirmed reports about very elderly men and women who grovel before him.
It is a tale of two opposing identities.
One, is the man with a harmless and gentle looks while the other, the real self, is a ruthless unforgiving personality.
Unfortunately, nemesis is a beast.
Who would have imagined that this is how and when nemesis would catch up with Governor Seyi Makinde?
He has successfully displaced most of the aboriginal Leaders of the PDP in Oyo.
He has silenced and practically retired many of them.
He crafted his way and maneuvered himself into office as a second term Governor.
Oh, at that point, he must have thought that the world was at his feet.
He was allegedly offered the Oyo APC structures on a platter of gold and he rejected it!
He even nominated a Minister for Tinubu which was rejected.
How are the mighty fallen? ( Eni aye ye nii te).
Easter celebration is fast approaching.
I have never enjoyed the privilege of being served by a sitting Governor.
