The Yoruba Youth Council (YYC) has congratulated the Matron and Executive Director of the Obafemi Awolowo Foundation, Mama (Amb.) Olatokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu, on the successful hosting of the 2026 Obafemi Awolowo Memorial Lecture.
In a statement issued by the President of the Council, Aare (Asoju Odo) Alawode Rahmon Akintunde, who was ably represented at the event by the Vice President, Omoluabi Sunday Adebowale, the Council expressed pride in being part of the historic gathering that celebrated the enduring legacy of the late sage, Obafemi Awolowo.
The YYC noted that the annual lecture, themed “Politics as Future-Making: Awolowo and Leadership as Theory of Action,” attracted governors, traditional rulers, lawmakers, scholars, and civil society leaders, describing it as a significant platform that rekindles the spirit of purposeful leadership among young Nigerians.
According to the statement, the lecture serves as a powerful reminder that leadership is not merely about occupying positions of authority but about building a future grounded in vision, integrity, and service to humanity—values consistently exemplified by Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
The Council further commended Mama Awolowo-Dosunmu for using the occasion to inspire a new generation of leaders. In her address, she announced the Obafemi Awolowo Future Leaders Fellowship, a mentorship and leadership training initiative targeted at young Africans between the ages of 20 and 35.
The programme, according to her, is designed to nurture ethical and visionary leaders who will be guided by Awolowo’s enduring principles of public service, social justice, and people-centered governance.
The Yoruba Youth Council described the initiative as a timely intervention that will shape the leadership capacity of young Africans and strengthen the values of responsible governance and societal development.
YYC therefore reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the ideals of Omoluabi, leadership integrity, and youth development across Yorubaland and beyond, while pledging its continuous support for initiatives that inspire young people to become transformational leaders.
