Oyo State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun has identified efficient communication as key component of information dissemination in a distressed economy the country is experiencing.
Dr Olatunbosun called for appointment and involvement of communication experts in public service to navigate distressed economy Nigeria is facing. He made the call at the 3rd faculty lecture of Communication and Information Sciences, Lead City University.
Dr Olatunbosun in his lecture delivered at the International Conference Centre, Faculty of Law identified security and infrastructure as priority of every government. He identified leaking of government information, low accessibility, misinformation, fake news among other challenges facing management of information and communication in public sector.
On what could be responsible for distressed economy which is described as an economy suffering or experiencing pain where disequilibrium exist between demand and supply forces; Dr Olatunbosun said distressed economy in Nigeria was aggravated in the country following the removal of subsidy by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The commissioner submitted that government must invest in scholarly research, conduct opinion poll and determine or use appropriate channel to convey information to different group.
Dr Olatunbosun stressed that Governor Seyi Makinde embraced scholarly research, opinion poll and used appropriate channel to reach good people of Oyo State under OmiTunTun 1.0 and OmuTunTun 2.0 and yielding positive results.
