A gubernatorial aspirant of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Oyo State, Kunle Olatunji, has expressed strong confidence in his chances of emerging victorious in the 2027 gubernatorial election, succeeding the incumbent Governor, Seyi Makinde.
Speaking during a scheduled meeting with party members, stakeholders, and leaders of the ADP in Ibadan—held in the company of the party’s executive members led by Apostle Dare Ojo Oyo State Chairman of ADP—Olatunji stated that the people of Oyo State are discerning enough to prioritize capacity, purposeful leadership, sincerity, and commitment over party loyalty or political sentiment.
According to him, the ADP is poised to present credible candidates across all elective positions, adding that his leadership philosophy, rooted in collectivism and collaboration, will resonate with the electorate.
“I am not in this race merely to participate. I am in it to win and to serve as the next Governor of Oyo State,” Olatunji declared.
He emphasized that continuity in governance should not be misconstrued as the transfer of power to a preferred or “anointed” successor, but rather as an opportunity for the electorate to choose a leader with proven competence, vision, and the capacity to deliver responsible governance.
Olatunji assured that his administration, if elected, would be driven by empathy, integrity, and a people-centered approach, prioritizing the welfare of all citizens over the interests of a select few.
“We will provide leadership defined by commitment, empathy, sincerity, and resourcefulness—placing the well-being of the people of Oyo State at the forefront of governance,” he said.
He further noted that his government would actively engage key stakeholders, including professional bodies, traditional institutions, religious leaders, youths, and the elderly, to foster inclusive governance and redefine leadership in the state.
Olatunji criticized what he described as a self-centered and individualistic style of leadership, advocating instead for a collective and participatory approach aligned with global best practices in governance and management.
Concluding, he expressed optimism that his emergence as governor would reinforce the principle that political power ultimately resides with the people.
“My victory will stand as a testament that power truly belongs to God and is entrusted to the people,” he said.
