The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Oyebode Adebowale, FAS, has stated that there are some basic things we need to go back to as a nation especially the Herbal Therapies which have been played down as a result of our absolute reliance on orthodox medicine and practices.
Professor Adebowale spoke through the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Professor O. O. Sonibare at the maiden Agribusiness & Entrepreneurship Workshop of the
Department of Agricultural Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ibadan.
The focus of the workshop was “Herbal Therapies and Lifestyle Management”
Professor Adebowale said the ancient ways of our forefathers should not be disregarded.
He therefore commended the organisers of the workshop, which he believed would help to remind and refresh our memories on the rich culture and health therapies held in high esteem by our forefathers.

He enjoined all to tap from the vast knowledge of the speakers at the workshop.
Professor Adebowale thanked the department and the Convener, Prof. Elizabeth Oluwalana for putting the program together.
The Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Professor A. B. Omojola stated that society has departed from local practices, and civilization has made us overlook the impact of these practices on our local communities.
He said there was a need for us to go back to the roots in order to increase the level of healthy living in our local communities and the country in general.
The keynote speech was delivered by Professor S. A. Oluwalana, a Professor of Forest Resources Management and a Herbal Therapy Practitioner.
His lecture was on the significance of various Nigerian herbs in curing commonly named diseases.
He elaborated on how herbs could bring about a reduction in mortality rate in the country.
The Special Guest of honour at the occasion, a distinguished Professor of Agricultural Economics, Professor J. A. Adegeye, who is also a Herbal Therapy Practitioner spoke on how various health challenges were mitigated through the knowledge and applications of herbal therapies.
The Convener, Professor Elizabeth Oluwalana, is a professor of Agricultural and Resource Economics in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Farm Management (AEFM) at the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB). She is presently on sabbatical leave at the Department of Agricultural Economics, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ibadan.
