Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has signed Executive Order 002, restricting the operation of commercial motorcycles, popularly known as “Okada,” to the hours of 5:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. across the state as part of efforts to strengthen security and enhance traffic management.
The Executive Order 002, titled “The Registration and Enforcement of Vehicle Registration and Traffic Management in Oyo State,” is designed to reinforce the state’s security architecture and improve compliance with road traffic regulations.
Speaking before signing the order, Governor Makinde said the decision became necessary in light of prevailing security challenges in the state, particularly the recent abduction of pupils and students in Oriire Local Government Area.
He noted that the measure would help fortify the state’s security framework and safeguard lives and property.
The governor acknowledged the anxiety and pain being experienced by the families of the abducted victims and assured residents that his administration remains committed to securing their safe release.

He also called on citizens to remain vigilant, united and resilient, stressing that fear must not be allowed to weaken collective resolve.
Earlier, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abiodun Aikomo, highlighted key provisions of the Executive Order, including restrictions on unmarked vehicles, sanctions against driving against traffic, and stricter regulations on vehicle registration as part of broader measures to enhance public safety and security.
