The former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Oyo State, Adebayo Ojo has said that the untimely passing of Acting National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Abiola Ajimobi naturally bequeathed the leadership of the party to Adebayo Alao-Akala.

Barrister Adebayo Ojo made the clarification today while featuring on Splash fm radio programme tagged State Affairs anchored by Edmund Obilo.

Since former Governor Abiola Ajimobi died on 25th June, 2020 from the complication of COVID-19, there were insinuations from different quarters over who becomes the leader APC in Oyo State.

Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala who dropped his 2019 gubernatorial ambition under the platform of African Democratic Party (ADP) and drummed support for the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Oloye Adebayo Adelabu Penkelemesi.

Alao-Akala was former Chairman, Ogbomoso North between 1999 and 2002 before he was picked as the running mate of Senator Adewolu Ladoja in 2003 gubernatorial election under People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

He was Deputy Governor from May 29th, 2003 until January 12th 2006 when the mantle of number one citizen in the State fell on him after Governor Ladoja was impeached by Oyo State House of Assembly due to fall out he had with his political godfather, Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu.

The impeachment of Governor Ladoja was overturned by Supreme Court and Alao-Akala vacated seat as Governor in December, 2006 after spending nine months.

Alao-Akala secured the ticket of PDP in 2007, contested and won before his reelection bid suffered setback in 2011, he lost to Sen.  Abiola Ajimobi.
