On Friday, 12th July, 2024, Junior Chamber International (JCI) Premier in collaboration with a non-profit organization, Olujimi Cares Foundation took the students of Oba Akinbiyi School, Mokola, Ibadan through menstrual hygiene which demands adequate care for menstrual health and overall well-being.
The theme of the programme titled; ‘’Stop the Spot” featured short and insightful lecture about what the menstrual hygiene is all about and how students should prepare for it in order to remain safe from infections and healthy during their menstrual cycle.
Senior Registrar, Family Medicine, University College Hospital (UCH), Dr Nkechi Iwuala facilitated a session for entire students of the school who participated. The 2024 Vice President Project and Project Lead for Stop the Spot in person of JCIN Amb. IseOluwa Adeniji in her advice to the girls said that menstrual hygiene is very important aspect of woman’s health. She urged the adolescent girls to take their menstrual hygiene serious because it protects their dignity as female gender, build their confidence and strengthen sexual and reproductive health among adolescent girls.

While speaking about the menstrual hygiene tips, Family Medicine practitioner, urged the students not to use rags, or tissue paper for menstruation, she advised them to change the sanitary pad from time to time, keep their vagina clean, avoid using chemical products that can be injurious or harmful to their health, dispose off the sanitary pad or tampon properly and remain clean always.

She encouraged them to take drink water always ,exercise regularly, eat fruits and vegetables to remain healthy and shun junk food.

JCIN AMB Adedayo IfeOluwa Duduyemi, 2024 President of JCI Premier, while speaking about the motives of the Health Awareness Project; she said mental health is very crucial mental cycle which aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 and 4.
JCIN AMB Adedayo Ifeoluwa Duduyemi said the initiative is to create educate, mentor young adolescent girls about their menstrual hygiene and create a long lasting impact, and reduce their struggle to access menstrual products or suitable facilities to manage their periods. Free sanitary pads were distributed to entire students at the end of the programme.
