A former member of House of Representatives, Honourable Dapo Lam-Adesina on the occasion of this year’s International Youth Day has urged people to give utmost support for youths in government.

The former lawmaker who is also an advocate of youth and a believer of inclusion of positive-minded young people in the corridors of leadership took to his social media page to condemn the pull him down mindset but rather encourage them to do better.

According to him, “political differences, gender, tribe should not divide us as a people or be the reason for anyone to wish our leaders failure in their respective offices”.

“A Leader according to the idea of transformational and effective leadership is one who does the following: Creates an inspiring vision of the future. Motivates and inspires people to engage with that vision.

“My belief about governance is very simple and clear and I have never hidden that.

“I believe that as a good leader, you must support and also pray that anyone who takes over from you in any public office should outperform you and break your records. This to me is the real/true leadership. I don’t believe in the saying “you don’t outshine the master”.

“I have always shared the belief with other lovers of the people that development can only come if people in positions of authority outperform each other.

“As an advocate of the youth and a firm believer in the inclusion of positive-minded young people in the corridors of leadership in our dear nation, I will be very proud to see members of my generation do wonders.

“On this, I wish to encourage all of us to always remember that when the election is over we should drop politics and concentrate on governance while doing everything possible to make sure that those in different positions of authority perform excellently well.

“I have held positions such as Commissioner and as a member of the House of Representatives who represented the good people of Ibadan North East/South East Federal Constituency and I make bold to say that even though the present occupants of those positions are not on the same political platform as myself but they are young people as well and I do implore all of us to support them to succeed and outperform what we were able to do during our time.

“As members of the same generation, politics/tribe/religion/gender should not divide us and we should support ourselves to succeed. It is when leaders do well that society develops.

“Four years is a short time, and for anyone who doesn’t do the right thing we can ease them out with our votes.

“But before then we should do everything possible to help our leaders to succeed.”

God bless my generation
God bless Nigeria

Happy International Youth Day 2020
