Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde, on Wednesday applauded the smooth and peaceful conduct of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) South-West Zonal Congress held at the Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.

The congress, convened to elect zonal executives for the next four years, was described by Governor Makinde as a model of internal party democracy and a positive signal for the PDP’s upcoming National Convention.

“This elective congress is more than a political gathering — it is a celebration of democracy. The South-West is, once again, showing the rest of the country how it should be done,” Makinde said. “We are witnessing a rancour-free process, with full participation from party stakeholders, INEC observers, and security agencies. This is democracy at its best.”

Also speaking, Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, hailed the unity and maturity displayed throughout the process, describing it as a far cry from past congresses.

“Four years ago, it wasn’t like this. But today, peace, unity, and progress define our gathering. We are sending a strong signal to the rest of the country — in the South-West, we stand united,” he stated. “My brother, Governor Makinde, and I are aligned in purpose and vision.”

Delegates from all six South-West states — Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, Ogun, and Lagos — participated in the congress, which saw the re-election of Alhaji Kamorudeen Ajisafe as PDP National Vice Chairman (South-West). Other returning executives include Obagunwa Muyiwa (Zonal Secretary), Alhaja Bosede Adedibu (Zonal Woman Leader), Adeyemo Adetunji (Zonal Treasurer), Yaya Adeleke (Zonal Financial Secretary), and Atofarati Olusanya (Zonal Publicity Secretary), among others.

The Chairman of the South-West Zonal Electoral Committee and former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, also praised the commitment and discipline of party leaders and stakeholders, noting that the congress further solidified the unity within the party’s ranks.

The well-attended congress drew party stalwarts including former Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Olabode George; PDP Board of Trustees members; zonal representatives on the National Working Committee; current and former lawmakers; and elected local government officials from across the region.
