The Palace of His Royal Majesty, Alaiyeluwa Ọba Ganiyu Busari Ajiboye, Ajagungungbade, the Alagọ-Ọja of Ọjaland, has clarified reports concerning a longstanding court case involving the late Alaafin of Ọ̀yọ́, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, and Alhaji Ganiyu Busari Ajiboye.

In a statement issued by the palace, it said the legal matter, which originated in 2018, had recently been brought to an end, stressing that the case should not be confused with the current traditional position of Oba Ganiyu Busari Ajiboye.
The palace maintained that the court case involving the late Alaafin and Alhaji Ganiyu Busari Ajiboye had “no connection whatsoever” with His Royal Majesty, Ọba Ganiyu Busari Ajiboye, Ajagungbade, whom it said was legally and properly enthroned in 2025.

The clarification comes amid renewed public discussion surrounding the traditional status of the Alagọ-Ọja of Ọjaland and the longstanding legal dispute connected to the Ago-Oja chieftaincy.
Historical court proceedings involving the late Alaafin and Ganiyu Ajiboye Busari date back several years. Reports have documented legal challenges surrounding the recognition and status of the Ago-Oja traditional institution.

The Oyo State Government had also previously identified Chief Ganiyu Ajiboye Busari as the Alago-Oja of Oyo and presented him with an instrument of office following his elevation among traditional chiefs.
According to the latest statement from the palace, the relevant court document has been provided for public reference and clarification.
The palace further urged members of the public to understand that Oba Ganiyu Busari Ajiboye, Ajagungungbade, remains the duly enthroned traditional ruler of Ọjaland, while calling for peace, unity, progress and harmony among the people.
The statement was issued in response to what the palace described as the need for proper clarification of the circumstances surrounding the court matter.
