The Oyo State House of Assembly has urged the Executive Arm of government to take decisive steps to curb unregulated mining activities in the state.

The house made the resolution following a motion presented by Hon Anthony Ogunsola representing Iwajowa state constituency.

The plenary which was presided over by the Speaker Hon Adebo Ogundoyin, commenced with the presentation of the motion titled ‘Need for the executive arm of government to take more proactive steps to curb unregulated and illegal mining operations in the state posing security threats to mining communities’.

The motion presented by Hon Anthony Ogunsola representing Iwajowa constituency appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to provide more robust logistics support to the task force constituted to enforce the implementation of executive order on mining activities and ensure total compliance of all mineral title holders in the state.

The speaker Hon Adebo Ogundoyin and other lawmakers in their contributions commended the mover of the motion Hon Anthony Ogunsola and called on the Oyo State Development Agency, Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and Ministry of Justice to effectively synergize on strengthening mechanisms for the implementation of the Executive Order to the benefit of mining communities and the state at large.

The house later forwarded the motion to the appropriate house committee for an oversight visit to mining sites across the state
