Ajagba youths in Oyo East Local Government Area have thrown their weight behind Barrister Temilolu Nurudeen Ashamu, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) candidate for Oyo Federal Constituency in the 2027 House of Representatives election.
The youths, operating under the platform of Ajagba Youths United for Nurudeen Ashamu (AYUNA), said they had resolved to combine their strength, networks and individual experiences to mobilise support for Ashamu across the constituency. According to the group, the decision reflects its confidence in the candidate and his capacity to provide effective representation for the people of Oyo Federal Constituency.
AYUNA described itself as a broad coalition of sons and daughters of Ajagba drawn from different professional and social backgrounds. The group said its members were prepared to take Ashamu’s message beyond their immediate community and engage residents across the various wards and communities that make up the constituency.
Explaining the motivation behind their support, the youths referred to the Yoruba saying, “Ọmọ kì í bá ìpẹ̀lẹ̀ ìyá rẹ̀, kò sí aṣọ dá,” stressing that they believed Ashamu had inherited the values of service and selflessness associated with his mother, Distinguished Senator Monsurat Aduke Sunmonu. They noted that her contributions to public service had remained a source of inspiration to many people within and beyond the constituency.
The group also pointed to what it described as Ashamu’s interventions in youth empowerment, human development and infrastructure, saying that some young people in Oyo Federal Constituency had benefited from opportunities associated with his years of public service. AYUNA maintained that these experiences informed its decision to openly identify with his candidacy.
Speaking to members of the group, its Chairman, Mr. Najeem, urged them to remain committed to the cause and ensure that the message of Ashamu’s candidacy reaches communities across the constituency. He encouraged members to engage positively with residents, build wider relationships and communicate the reasons behind their support.
The endorsement represents another expression of grassroots support for Ashamu as political activities ahead of the 2027 election continue to gather momentum across Oyo Federal Constituency. AYUNA said it would continue its mobilisation efforts and work with other stakeholders towards achieving its stated objective of supporting the APM candidate.
