The University of Ibadan community was enveloped in a wave of sorrow as students, faculty members, and well-wishers gathered for a night of tributes and a candle night procession in honor of a 500-level student of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Christabel Okareh whose sudden passing left the Faculty in deep mourning.

The procession organized by the Association of Veterinary Medicine Students, AVMS served as a moving farewell to give last respect to Christabel.

The students were seen ​Clad in black attire, carrying lit candles that illuminated the night as they marched in quiet and sober reflection through key locations on the campus from her Hostel toward the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine complex.

In his Tribute, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Professor Babasola Olugasa described Christabel as a bright, dedicated, and exceptional student nearing the completion of her rigorous Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) journey.

Professor Olugasa disclosed that the Faculty will inaugurate a club to be named after her as ” Shepherd Club Foundation of Christabel .

Also, President of the AVMS, Master Odunaike Faruq described Christabel as a Young lady that was full of life and Godly.

Students, classmates, and friends expressed sorrow as they said the loss of Christabel was a big blow to them, and the Entire University Community prayed God to give the family the Fortitude to bear the loss.

The flickering flames from the candle procession symbolized both the light the late Christabel Okareh brought into the lives of her peers.

Emotional songs and gentle chants resonated through the air, creating an atmosphere of Respect and deep emotional resonance across the campus community.

Christabel Okareh died on the 29th of September during an illness at the age of 23.
