The death has been announced of a Foremost African Linguist, and Foundation President of the Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL), Emeritus Professor Ayo Bamgbose, NNOM, FNAL, D.Litt. 2017.

His death was announced earlier today at the age of 94.

Emeritus Professor Bamgbose served the University of Ibadan meritoriously and was the Dean of the Faculty of Arts from 1971 to 1973.

He was a distinguished contributor to the academic and intellectual life of the country.
