The Oyo State College of Education, Lanlate recently played host to a Board of Trustees Member of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Rt. Hon. Sunday Adeyemi Adepoju who was on a working visit to assess ongoing and distressed projects as well as interact with the Council and College Management.
He was accompanied by the Zonal Coordinator for the South-West Zone, Engr. (Dr.) Taiwo Luqman and the Public Relations Officer, Miss Maria Joseph.
In his address, Rt. Hon. Adepoju commended the Federal Government’s continued commitment to strengthening tertiary education through TETFund’s various intervention programmes. He highlighted several key initiatives currently being implemented across institutions in the South-West zone and noted that several tertiary institutions in the zone have immensely benefited from them.
While welcoming the team, the Acting Provost, Dr. Olaide Lamidi expressed appreciation for Hon. Adepoju’s consistent support, especially for the approval of a female hostel project recently granted to the College. He therefore appealed for interventions towards the construction of buildings for the schools of General Education, Early Childhood Care and Primary Education, Languages, Educational Technology, and erection of perimeter fencing of the College’s sites. With a plea, the Acting Provost concluded by seeking more and constant support for the College through various TETFund allocations year in, year out, being the only state-owned college of education in Oyo State.
The Council Chairman, Com. Segun Oyewumi in his own remarks, lauded Hon. Adepoju popularly called Omoyin for his generosity and tireless efforts in supporting institutions across the region. He particularly appealed for greater consideration for the College, noting that it remained among the least funded institutions within the South-West zone. He concluded with a passionate appeal for special consideration for the young College, reminding Hon. Adepoju that the College belongs to him, being a son of the soil.

Similarly, Lanlate Elders’ Council Chairman, Chief Agbo Adeyemo, who was present during the visit, appreciated the former Representative of Ibarapa East/Iddo Federal Constituency at the green chamber for his benevolence and urged him to give priority to the College’s infrastructural needs.
Responding, the Rt. Hon. Adepoju stressed the objectives of his visit was to assess ongoing and distressed projects; identify areas requiring additional support and receive fresh requests from beneficiary institutions for possible consideration. He discussed the Fund’s efforts towards promoting alternative power sources in beneficiary institutions, including solar and wind energy projects. These, he said, were expected to boost institutional efficiency and sustainability.

Also, on research and innovation, the Ibarapa-born Board Member revealed that TETFund has constituted a Simulation Committee aimed at supporting advanced research particularly in medical sciences with substantial financial provisions made for the programme.
Concluding, he advised the management to compile and prioritize all requests, but with clear justifications and forward them to the Executive Secretary of the Board.
In his closing remarks, the Acting Registrar, Mr. Oloyede Adegboye thanked the TETFund team for their visit and wished them safe travels back to their destinations.

Tunde Badmus, the Acting Deputy Provost, Dr. Segun Okedigba, Stand-in Personal Assistant to the Provost, Mr. Muyideen Owolabi, Head, Procurement Office, Mr. Emmanuel Bolarinwa, Mr. Adeolu Okebukola, Procurement Officer and the Union Leaders, amongst others.
