On the first of December 2020, the post of the Vice Chancellor of Nigeria’s premier University, University of Ibadan will become vacant.

This is because the tenure of the incumbent Vice Chancellor, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka will officially come to an end on the 31st of November, 2020.

A release by the institution to announce that the office will become vacant read, “The post of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria, will become vacant by 01 December, 2020″.

“In accordance with the provisions of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Decree No. 11 of 1993 (as Amended by Decree No. 25 of 1996) and by the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1993 (Amendment) Act 2003 and Act 2012, the Governing Council of the University of Ibadan wishes to commence the process of filling the vacancy.”

Barring any changes, the submission of applications will close on Thursday July 9, 2020.
The release, which was signed by the registrar of the institution, Olubunmi O. Faluyi, read further, Any interested candidate “is required to possess a good university education and should be a proven, successful manager of human and material resources. Specifically, the candidate shall be expected to: be a highly distinguished scholar of the rank of Professor, with a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience on that level and demonstrate ability to provide academic and administrative leadership for such a well-established institution; be a person of proven integrity; be not more than 65 years old as at the date of possible assumption of duty on 01 December, 2020; command the respect of the national and international academic communities through his/her track record; strengthen the bridges between staff, students and other members of the University community; be a person with a clear vision for the development of the University enjoy excellent physical and mental health; and attract the much-needed funds into the University”.

However, FRESHPAGE.COM.NG  gathered that seven professors are currently leading the race, which is expected to be keenly contested, to take over the leadership mantle of the institution.

They are

1) Deputy Vice Chancellor, Admin, Professor Kayode Oyebode Adebowale of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science;

2) Former Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, Professor Adeyinka Abideen Aderinto;

3) Former Dean, Faculty of Arts, Professor Remi Raji-Oyelade of the Department of English;

4) Former Dean, Faculty of Law, Professor Oluyemisi Adefunke Bamgbose, SAN;

5) Provost of College of Medicine, Professor Emiola Oluwabunmi Olapade-Olaopa;

6 Immediate past Chief Medical Director (CMD), University College Hospital (UCH), Professor Temitope Alonge;

7) Professor George Olusegun Ademowo of the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutic, Faculty of Basic Medical Science.
