I have just read the response to my story titled ” Insecurity: Another School Boy Error From Adebo Ogundoyin”.

Rt Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin

The rejoinder to my story is credited to a fellow named Oyetunji Oyekunle, who claims to be the Media Aide of the Oyo state Speaker.

Honestly, I am surprised that the Speaker of Oyo state has an Aide on Media.

I wonder where the fellow was hiding when his Boss was being battered left right and center by his colleagues during the infamous ” impeachment” Drama of the Governor.

Having said that, I have to say that the gentleman failed completely to address the issues I raised in my piece.

First, that reckless statements from the Speaker shouldn’t be coming from him in the first place and the Media Aide didn’t speak to that.

In recognition of the insensitive comment by the Speaker, the Commissioner for information immediately released a statement which was directed at journalists and I said that the statement should have been directed at the Speaker who obviously lacks the maturity to treat the kind of very sensitive information he released.

At no time did I accuse the Speaker of advocating for the neglect of the victims but I said and I am still repeating it that his comments lacks empathy and they do not give hope to the families of the victims.

Now, let me ask our friend the Media Aide, when his Boss said they are not going to negotiate the release of the victims and going against them gun blazing is ruled out, what other methods did he prefer for the release of the victims?

In the shoes of the affected victims, would our Media Aide friend have been comfortable with the manner the Speaker waved away the option of negotiations?

It’s like Oyekunle does not understand the reasons why Yorubas used to say that there are more than one way of interpreting the word ” sorry”. ( Pele ni Ako, o ni abo).

I am also so surprised that Oyekunle trivialized the issue of collaboration with the Federal Government which I raised in my piece.

To him, just because there is the presence of some Federal Security personnel in the state, then, that is enough to suggest that there is collaboration between the state and the Federal Government.

It is not my wish to get our friend into trouble with his employers but, is Oyekunle not aware that Governor Seyi Makinde claimed that he is helpless and that he is just a Chief Security officer without control over Security Agents?

How many times has Governor Seyi Makinde met with the National Security Adviser to the president?

Is Oyekunle not aware that the office of the National Security Adviser has so much to do on issues, the kind of which we have at hand?

Or, he wants to tell us that Governor Seyi Makinde has been meeting with the National Security Adviser in his dream.

If Debo Ogundoyin hadn’t interfered in issues beyond his understanding, we won’t be having this discussion.

Even, if Government is indisposed to negotiating with the terrorists under certain conditions, should the Speaker of the state spoke carelessly about it the way he did?

Most especially, when he provided not a single alternative to the option of negotiations?

I stand with every bit of what I said earlier and I don’t care about how the Speaker or anyone received my opinion.

I am certain that, not even Oyekunle would wish that their children are abducted by Bandits.

Even in the Countries abroad, where they claimed that it is not their policy to negotiate with terrorists, they will still find ways of doing what is necessary to get their citizens out of captivity.

I am saying that we have to use whatever methods to get these poor children and their teachers away from the demons who abducted them.

After that, we can now work on the defects that brought this unfortunate situation upon us.

I am surprised that Oyekunle was nowhere when Hon. Shittu accused his Boss and others of constituting themselves to a Cabal that has been approving loans for the Governor without due process.

Sola Abegunde.
