The group in its letter signed by the President, Ojekunle Wasiu Olanrewaju and Assistant Secretary, Okunola Sunkanmi charged Hon. Eletu as the leader of 11 council chairmen in Ibadan not to participate in action that will further undermine development of LGAs at grassroots.

“We, the The Ibadan Youth Indigenes Association For Development that is formally known as the Integrity Youths of Ibadan Association are writing to you as coordinating chairman of other chairmen of Ibadan based local governments to express our strong opposition to the decision of the Oyo State Local Governments to opt out of the full autonomy granted by the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

“We want to urge you and others not to participate in this non-developmental decision, as it goes against the spirit of decentralization and autonomy that our local government deserves. Maintaining the status quo will only perpetuate dependence and undermine the development of our local governments within Ibadan and others in Oyo State by extension.

“We believe that autonomy will bring about improved governance, accountability, and effective utilization of resources. It will also enable our local government to address peculiar challenges and harness local opportunities for those in grassroots.

“We appeal to you to prioritize the interest of our local governments and its people. We say no to the use of the state account and demand that our local governments be allowed to manage its own affairs to fullest.

“We want peace and progress in Ibadan based Local Government Areas, and we believe that autonomy is the only key to this”.
