Engr Seyi Makinde

A couple of months ago, I wrote a piece titled “Babylon Is Crumbling”. I chose the word “crumbling” deliberately because as at that time, the word, “collapse” will not be appropriate and it would have been debatable to describe the challenges before Governor Seyi Makinde and his followers as one which is capable of bringing his entire political empire to the ground.

Engr Seyi Makinde

However, after some time, it became apparent to discerning minds that no matter how hard Governor Seyi Makinde tries, he could not avoid a political tsunami in 2027.

Presently, things are just falling apart for the Governor while falling into places for the frontline opposition political party, the All Progressives Congress, APC and its gubernatorial candidate, but before I continue in that line of thought, let me talk about Dr. Moronkola Thomas and our funny friend who lives abroad, Ismaila Akolade.

I saw a video of an interview of Dr. Moronkola Thomas a couple of days ago. He was full of confidence that the Allied People’s Movement, APM will produce the next Governor of Oyo state. He claimed that he strategized for the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi and he was able to win a second term in office based on his political strategies. Sometimes, I marvel at the rate at which some politicians overpriced their usefulness.

As for Kolade, I saw a Facebook post by him some hours before writing this piece and honestly, instead of being angry with him, I sympathized with him. He has overestimated his political sagacity and things are not working according to his expectations.

He thought the APC in Oyo state would continue to drift apart, but the reverse is the case. So, why won’t he be frustrated and angry? After listening to him, I remembered the lyrics of a song composed by a female Muslim Musician, Alhaja Aminat Obi rere.

I am a Christian but I love to listen to the music of the woman, Obi rere. In one of her recent efforts, she sang about people who love to neglect their own problems while blowing the whistle on the problems of others, whereas, their own problems are greater in proportion. ( Eyin tisoro po lara yin le fe maa yo wa, Falana dakun gbo tara re, tara eni la ma ngbo).

I recommend that song by Alhaja Aminat Obi rere for Ismaila Akolade.

The fellow had declared publicly that he is working for Governor Makinde and the APM. Infact, he swore that there is no way Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli, whom he always referred to as “Senator Billboard”, will ever defeat Governor Makinde’s candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi.

According to him, Seyi Makinde is the “double six” and the “greatest master Chess player in Oyo politics”. However, i thought he should be directing his energies towards how Governor Seyi Makinde and the APM would not let him down in 2027.

Instead, in his recent Facebook post, he chose to be directing personal, unprovoked and unwarranted insults on the leaders of the APC who have been appointed to reconcile aggrieved parties within Oyo APC.

Specifically, he singled out Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, Professor Taoreed Adedoja and most especially, Chief Mrs. Oluwakemi Alao-Akala. While pouring insults on these people, he did not mention a single crime they committed by accepting to serve their political party, neither did he state how their acceptance of the noble responsibilities placed upon them has jeopardize his day to day activities.

However, you could see so much anger, frustration and desperation pouring from his uncouth mouth against these elderly people for no just cause. Interestingly, while the clown was pouring insults and scorn on those people, the empire of his pay master was catching fire.

The Group loyal to a former Deputy Governor of Oyo state and former National Secretary of the PDP, Amb. Taofik Arapaja disowned Governor Seyi Makinde and the APM.

Not only that, the group labeled him a serial betrayal and from available information, Arapaja and his group could be on their way to the APC soon.

Also, a former Deputy Chief of Staff to the late Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, and member of Governor Seyi Makinde’s Governor’s Advisory Council, GAC, Alhaji Razak Gbadegesin resigned from the Council on Monday.

That is not the end of the story, it is being whispered that a wife of the late strongman of Oyo politics could be on her way to the APC in the coming days.

All these political calamities and I believe, still counting, befell Akolade’s “double six” within a short period and instead of him to focus on those problems bedeviling his paymaster, he was wasting time, opening his gutter so wide to abuse individuals whose sandals he might never be qualified to untie for the entirely of his troubled life.

I hate wasting time on people like Akolade but this time around, he crossed the line.

In Yoruba land, it is not in our customs to rain abuses on elders, most especially, the dead and when they have done nothing to deserve insults.

I was surprised to see the frustrated fellow spewing insults on the late Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, just because an innocent woman decided to accept an assignment given to her by a political party which she belongs to.

You kept beating your chest that Governor Makinde and the APM will win in Oyo state and no one stopped you from such delusional thoughts.

So, if you’re sure of your unfounded permutations that Bimbo Adekanmbi can not be defeated by Sharafadeen Alli and the APC, what is the need for a negative pregnancy about whatever the APC chooses to do within its ranks?

I will tell the story of the pouch rat, ( Okete), Ifa and the three dogs of Ifa to our friend who seems to have been lost in the country of the White Man.

There was a time Okete and Ifa were very good friends but Okete decided to be stealing from the farm of his friend, Ifa.

On a particular day, Ifa went to the farm with his three dogs, namely, Aisee, ( it is forbidden), Ohun eewo, ( it is a taboo) and Bii ba bi ni, ( nemesis). On getting to the farm, Ifa caught Okete red handed, stealing from his farm and as Okete saw him, he started running, while Ifa’s dogs pursued him.

When Okete was about to be caught, Ifa called back his dogs with this song, ” Aisee, Ohun eewo, Bii ba bi ni, e jue o”.

Akolade is a Yoruba man and I’m sure he needs no interpreter before he understands the wisdom behind that story.

Babylon will fall. Governor Seyi Makinde, Bimbo Adekanmbi and the APM will be roundly defeated and Ismaila Akolade will be very much alive to witness those events.

Sola Abegunde.
