The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced Governor Seyi Makinde as the winner of the March 18, gubernatorial elections held in the state.

Governor Makinde defeated Senator Teslim Kolawole Folarin of All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Adebayo Adelabu of Accord and Mr. Tawfiq Akinwale of Labour Party.
Makinde won in 31 LGAs while candidate of the APC, Folarin won in 2 love.
The incumbent governor, Makinde polled a total number of 563,757 votes to defeat Senator Teslim Kolawole Folarin who scored 256,685 votes while former Deputy Governor of Central Bank and candidate of the Accord made 38,354 to occupy thirst position.
With the election victory of Engr Makinde, he becomes the second governor in the history to win re-election bid.
