As the price of diesel bit so hard, Oyo State Government through Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources has commenced gas installations for light-up Oyo project.
The Commissioner for Energy and Natural Resources, Barr Seun Ashamu unveiled the gas installations as alternative to diesel generator. The initiative will cut down the quantity of diesel used to power the street lights across the five geo-political zones in Oyo State.
FRESHPAGE.COM.NG recalls that there were public outcry over incessant power supply of the street lights due to hike in diesel.
According to commissioner of energy and natural resources, Ashamu said Light-Up Oyo project was scoped to be powered using tribrid; energy source, inverter and gas support when government conceived the project.

Ashamu urged residents of Oyo State to bear with the government as gas installations continue in order to minimize unavoidable fluctuations in the availability of the public lighting network
He added that the Governor Seyi Makinde-led government didn’t pay extra for the diesel. He stressed that IPP which is in its final stages will power about half of the 300km public lighting infrastructure.
