During a live interview on a private radio station bankrolled with Oyo State taxpayers’ money, Bimbo Adekanmbi, the APM governorship candidate and anointed stooge of Governor Seyi Makinde, made a shocking statement that further exposed his emptiness and anti-people agenda.
Bimbo Adekanmbi, during a paid PR appearance on the radio station with a personality known for taking his birthday cake to Government House and receiving an SUV from the Governor, said: “I will not grant Local Government Autonomy.”
By that statement, Adekanmbi is telling everyone in the state that he will continue the script of his godfather, Seyi Makinde, on LG administration and render the councils useless.
That statement alone is enough for indigenes and residents of Oyo State to know that Adekanmbi will be the worst version of his godfather, Seyi Makinde, and has absolutely nothing to offer.
Let me quickly remind the imposed APM governorship candidate and others that Local Government Autonomy is not a privilege. It is not a gift from a governor. It is the law. It is a judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. It is a policy courageously implemented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to bring development to the grassroots and to free the third tier of government from the shackles of greedy governors.
Every progressive, every lover of democracy, every genuine leader celebrated that landmark judgment. But Governor Makinde fought it. He said openly that he does not believe in the constitutionally recognized tier of government, simply because he has a hidden agenda for the monthly allocations of the 33 LGs in the state. No doubt, Governor Makinde is the number one enemy of Local Government autonomy in Nigeria. He went from one media house to another to attack the Supreme Court and the President.
Now his puppet, Bimbo Adekanmbi, has come out openly to say he will continue that wicked war. He said he will not grant autonomy.
What impudence? What arrogance? Who are you to grant what the Supreme Court and the Constitution have already granted?
Governor Makinde strangulated Local Governments with illegal caretaker committees for years, using LG funds to service his political empire. His stooge is now promising to bury Local Governments completely.
If Makinde is bad on the scale of those expecting development at the grassroots, Bimbo Adekanmbi will be worse.
This is the real plan of Omituntun 3.0 by proxy — to keep the 33 Local Governments in Oyo State as personal ATMs for the godfather in Agodi and his private residence.
How can development reach Saki, Ibarapa, Ogbomoso, Kajola, Iseyin and other zones if a governor sits in Ibadan and says he will not allow Local Government autonomy? It means no roads at the grassroots, no primary health care, no primary schools, no market development. It means hunger and poverty will continue.
A man who says on live radio that he will disobey the Supreme Court has nothing to offer Oyo State. A man who says he will fight President Tinubu’s pro-people reform has nothing to offer.
His interview on that state-bankrolled radio station, where the biased anchor was nodding like an apologist, only confirmed what we have been saying — that Bimbo Adekanmbi has no blueprint, no vision, no capacity. His only agenda is to protect Makinde’s maladministration and cover his tracks with inflated costs of remodelling Airport projects.
Oyo State needs a governor who will obey the law, respect the autonomy of Local Governments, and allow development to reach every ward.
Oyo State does not need a small dictator who will be worse than his godfather.
In 2027, Oyo voters should reject Bimbo Adekanmbi and his godfather. This is the best way to ensure accountability for Makinde’s maladministration. Oyo people should not vote for a candidate without love for the grassroots, respect for the rule of law, and pro-masses ideology.
