Ibadan Development Social Group (IDSG) has berated Governor Seyi Makinde’s led government over what it described as needless jamboree to usher in Air Peace airline operation into Oyo State.
A statement released by the group and signed by its coordinator Engr Tunde Tolase reminded Governor Makinde that Air Peace is a private business and charged Oyo State government to concentrate in other projects that will earn the airport international outlook.
The group commended Engr Seyi Makinde that it is during his regime that Air Peace Airline came to Oyo State. The group however noted that talks were ongoing before he came onboard as governor of Oyo State.
“The operation of Air Peace airline in Oyo State should not be over celebrated because the operation of the airline is never a charity. The coming of Air Peace Airline to Oyo State will no doubt facilitate the smooth air transport from Ibadan to Abuja. Osun State will also benefit from the operation of Air Peace Airline.
“Soji Akanbi has been talking with FAAN to extend Alakia Airport runway which will enable bigger aircraft to fly in Ibadan. Once this is achieved, it will airlift intending pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia and Jerusalem.
The Group charged Engr Makinde to renew commitment and build on Senator Soji Akanbi’s achievement on how to achieve international status for Alakia Airport.
The group recalled that Senator Akanbi’s giant strides brought about renovation of Alakia Airport in 2019.
The group noted that Air Peace operation will no doubt break the monopoly of only overland operating Ibadan-Abuja route.
Through effort of Senator Akanbi, Arik Airline will begin operation soon in Ibadan: group assured all and sundry in Ibadan.
