The future of automotive mobility is here and Nigerian youths are taking the wheel!
Following the removal of the fuel subsidy in 2023 and the subsequent rise in petrol prices, the Federal Government introduced Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as a more affordable and locally available alternative for motorists.
Today, a new chapter begins as 300 NYSC corps members commence specialised training in CNG vehicle retrofitting, through a partnership between the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), facilitated by the Special Assistant to the President on Youth Initiatives (Monitoring and Delivery), Dr. Titilope Gbadamosi.
Selected corps members with backgrounds in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering and Electrical Engineering will receive hands-on training across Abuja, Kano, Adamawa, Enugu, Edo and Lagos.
This is more than just a training programme. It is about turning degrees into practical skills, skills into opportunities, and young Nigerians into professionals who can contribute meaningfully to the country’s growing CNG ecosystem.
The training begins today at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Kubwa, after which the corps members will continue their practical learning through attachments at CNG conversion centres throughout their service year.
More importantly, they arrived with degrees, they will leave with a skill and Nigeria gains 300 more hands ready for the CNG revolution.
