The presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has pledged that he will fix broken Nigeria’s economy if elected as president.

He made the assurance when he played host of Executives of the National Rice Producers, Processors, Millers and Marketers Association of Nigeria (NARPPMMAN) at his Abuja residence.

The association was led by Alhaji Ahmadu Mustafa. He reminded Alhaji Atiku the need to invest in agriculture in order to overcome food insecurity among other challenges facing the country.

Alhaji Mustafa noted that food insecurity responsible for high rate of poverty and societal unrest in the country. He laid emphasis that rice consumption in Nigeria is the highest among African countries. He called for investment and support of rice producers in the country.

According to FOA, annual rice production in Nigeria stood at 5.45million tonnes while annual consumption is around 7million tonnes. Therefore, Nigeria must strengthen it’s local production to bridge the gap between Nigeria’s production and consumption.
