Academic brilliance, hard work, resilience and tenacity to succeed paved way for the duo representatives of School of Science, Okeho; Hassan Abubakir Olaitan and Olalekan Grace at the just concluded competition among secondary school students in Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State in order to pick, decorate overall best student among other participants as one-day Chairman of the council.

The competition which lasted for few days was part of the initiative of His Excellency, Gov Seyi Makinde to prepare students for leadership position through  academic excellence and replicate one-day Governor obtained in Lagos State but in innovative manner.

The programme which was put together by Neighborhoodschool.com.ng in conjunction with Oyo State Government had students across the entire secondary schools in Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State. Each school had two representatives and their academic brilliance were put into test till they had eleven schools for final round.

On what informed decision of Oyo State government to have a day chairman and not One Day Governor as Lagos State practice, the coordinator, Mr. Hassan Aanuoluwapo said the intention is to have more student-leaders and to make sure all schools in Oyo State got fair representation instead of allowing students in the capital city to participate.

Eleven schools; Schhol of Science Okeho,  BHS Ilero, The Rescue College, Victorial College Okeho, OIG School, Oke-Ogun Ogbite Okeho, Community Grammar School Ilua and others participated in the final roun.

Mr. Hassan Abubakir Olaitan and Miss Olalekan Grace of School of Science, Okeho emerged winners of the competition for the year 2024. Abubakir becomes Chairman while Grace emerged Vice-chairman of the council.

Abubakir and her colleague, Grace received a warm recognition when the official car of the chairman, Kajola Local Government Area, Hon. AbdulKakeem Mustapha Olawale drove into their school premises to pick them up and perform official duty as Chairman and Vice-chairman of the council.

The organiser of the program ably led by Mr. Hassan Aanuoluwapo urged teeming students celebrating Abubakir’s feat to strive for best and face their academic. He narrated that it was Abubakir’s outstanding performance and that of her colleague, Grace that earned them recognition they will cherished for ever.

The elated Abubakir gave a brief remark before he departed school with other participants from the remaining 10 schools.

Abubakir’s first point of call was a visit to Onjo of Okeho, Oba Rafiu Osuolale Mustapha, Adeitan II  along with his colleagues who were constituted as councillors for the council.

At Onjo’s palace, he was introduced to the Monarch and the monarch accepted him as the royal father of the town. Oba Rafiu Mastapha took his time to intimate the one-day Chairman what his immediate environment lack. He commended Gov. Seyi Makinde for the initiative and inform the chairman his expectations from his administration. Abubakir assured the monarch of government’s support to developmental projects.

Shortly after that, Abubakir and his colleagues proceeded to Elero of Ilero Palace, Oba Wasiu Oyedele Saka.

The monarch was happy to see brilliant minds being recognized for their academic prowess, he encouraged them not to relent in their quest for academic excellence as they move higher in life.

Abubakir also paid a courtesy visit to SEAP FM radio to meet management of the radio station formerly.

While fielding questions from FRESHPAGE.COM.NG correspondent on how he feels when his name was announced, Abubakir said he was extraordinary happy for the thanked His creator who made it possible for him among others they compete together.

While speaking about the driving force for his success, he appreciated Governor Seyi Makinde for his genuine interest in education and making sure qualitative education is available for all and sundry in the state at least possible cost for parents.

He equally appreciated the Principal of the School, Mr. F.O Ojelade for his fatherly role, who out of his tight schedule and administrative work make sure teachers impart them at the right time.

“My sincere appreciation goes to entire teaching and non-teaching staff of School of Science, Okeho, without their inputs, nothing will be celebrated today. I also want to encourage my colleagues to strive for the best and keep raising the flag of our school higher”.

Recently, a student from the School of Science, Okeho, Nicholas Dominic emerged winner of Success Initiative Platform Quiz Competition and Symposium for Secondary Schools in Kajola Local Government.
