The Minister of Power, Engr Joseph Tegbe has reinstated that there is no plan to raise electricity tariffs contrary to speculation in different quarters that there will be hike in electricity due to improvement in electricity supply across the country.
Tegbe made the assurance while x-raying his 100 days in office as substantive Minister of Power.
He said that he took up the assignment with four commitments: disciplined execution, grid stability through real reform, visible improvement, and honest communication with Nigerians. Tegbe said the last few months have been dedicated to diagnosis and repair.

“The 375MW Alaoji plant has been restored to the national grid after three years offline. Transmission capacity has been unlocked in Lagos, Abuja and other locations. Funds have been mobilised toward a debt burden that has quietly undermined the sector for years. And through the pragmatic resolution of the AMMON litigation, over 350,000 meters have been deployed to Nigerian homes and businesses.
“We acknowledge that many Nigerians are still without reliable power, and we understand the frustration of hearing about progress not yet felt on your own street. We will not pretend that away. Fixing this sector properly takes time, and we will not promise a quick fix that doesn’t hold.
“To be clear: there is no plan to raise electricity tariffs. This is not a political statement — it is where we stand. We will continue to acknowledge what is working and what is yet to, and we restate our commitment to supply reliability, billing accuracy and faster resolution of complaints, with no shortcuts.
“Our gratitude to the team working under difficult conditions, and to Nigerians choosing to stay engaged with us on this journey. We’re not there yet, but we’re moving”.
