The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, has solicited the continued prayers and support of the Muslim Community of the university.
He made this appeal at a reception held after the Special Jumat Service held to herald the university’s 77th Foundation Day and 2025 Convocation Ceremonies.
Professor Adebowale expressed profound appreciation to the new Chief Imam of the UI Central Mosque, Professor Ibrahim O. Uthman for his profound sermon at the Jumat service, saying his message was a crucial reminder for us all, as members of the academic community to champion our nation through prayers and positive contributions.
He restated that seeking knowledge as a panacea of growth and sustainable development was crucial at this dispensation of Nigeria’s national existence.
The VC extended his thanks to the President of the University of Ibadan Muslim Community (UIMC), Professor M.A. Onilude and the entire community for their steadfast prayers and support for his administration.
He urged members of the community and staff of the university to uphold the university’s legacy of being the “first and best” in their conduct during the Foundation Day and Convocation Ceremonies and beyond.

The Chief Imam, Professor Ibrahim O. Uthman appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for his unwavering support to the Muslim community, recounting instances where the VC had demonstrated selfless leadership.
He called for a continuous offering of thanks to Allah for divine enablement and benevolence for the VC and the management team of the university.
Professor Uthman disclosed that the UIMC is committed to cordial inter-faith relationships, hence its position as a staunch supporter of peace and progress within the university community.
The Chief Imam had earlier stated in his Jumat sermon that knowledge is the pathway to heaven, adding that no one can practice Islam without knowledge because it occupies a special space in the Islamic religion.
He, therefore, urged Nigerian youths to shun vices and seek knowledge through necessary education, living in harmony and peace with other religions, stressing that Islam is a religion of peace.
The Chief Imam commended his predecessor, recently retired Professor Muftahu Oloyede AbdulRahmon for his wealth of knowledge, leadership, and meritorious service to the Muslim community and the university, adding that he was a teacher of teachers who encouraged the Muslim community to pursue a higher level of education.
He later appreciated the university management for sustaining the culture of attending the Jumat Service to herald the foundation day of the university and convocation ceremonies.
He assured the university management that UIMC will not relent in raising special prayers for the continued success of the administration.
