The Executive Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, mni, FNSE, has called for collaboration between the University of Ibadan and Borno State University.

The Governor, an alumnus of UI who brokered a meeting between the visiting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, and the Vice-Chancellor of Borno State University, Professor Umar Kyari Sandabe, said Borno State University has a lot to benefit from the University of Ibadan, the premier university in Nigeria.

At a meeting attended by the Registrars of both institutions and other top officers, Professor Adebowale said the 75-year-old University of Ibadan operates the committee system and that the Committees regulate the University’s activities.

He assured the fledgling four- year old Borno State University that UI was ready to provide manpower development for both the academic and non teaching staff.

Professor Sandabe said that although Borno State University appreciates the mentoring roles of the University of Maiduguri, it would be willing to cooperate with UI, especially in the Post Graduate training of its young lecturers and non academic staff.

He disclosed that Borno State University presently has 30 programmes in four faculties and would graduate its first set in February 2024.

Professor Sandabe said the Faculties would soon be expanded, and more manpower would be required.

He stated that his University wishes to align with the integrity and robustness of UI products and programmes.

The two Vice-Chancellors agreed to formalise arrangements as soon as possible through the signing of Memoranda of Understanding and Memoranda of Agreement in the hope of fostering deep and sustainable long lasting relationships.
