Senator Yunus Akintunde, representing Oyo Central Senatorial District on Friday attended the 17th annual LAUTECH Alumni Lecture, civic reception, and alumni reunion.
Senator Akintunde spoke on the topic titled: “Power generation and utilization as alternative funding to the Nigerian University educational system: pivotal tools for financial autonomy and advancement of Nigerian youths.”
Senator Akintunde while delivering his lecture delved into the crucial role power generation can play in funding and advancing the educational system in Nigeria, especially for the benefit of youth, the larger population.
Dr Akintunde said there is need to create an opportunity to explore innovative approaches to empower the next generation through sustainable funding solutions.
He highlighted the reasons why Nigeria can have stable electricity supply “in generating electricity , we must study the geographical settings of a particular area either industrial, markets or settlements, this will help us to know the capacity of the electricity needed”
During the program, Senator Akintunde analyzed successful international PPP practices in the renewable energy sector. He identified key arrangements that can help mitigate the risks associated with specific renewable energy projects.
In an interview with a TVC News correspondent, he suggested that schools should adopt a public-private partnership (PPP) approach by bringing in private investors stressing that expenses of the university can be reduced, and the rate of energy poverty in Nigeria can be addressed.
The event not only featured Senator Akintunde’s enlightening lecture, but it also included awards and recognition for individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Senator Akintunde was also decorated and presented with an award. It was a celebration of achievements and an opportunity to honor those who have made significant contributions to society.
The enthusiastic reception among the LAUTECH student bodies and other student associations was palpable. The chance to see and engage with Dr Akintunde at the annual reunion was truly inspiring.
