The youths under the umbrella of Ado-Awaye Progressive Youths Movement (A.P.Y.M) from a community under Iseyin Local Government Area have raised an eyebrow over the proposed plan by the monarch of the town, Oba Rev’d Ademola Olugbile Folakanmi Makuledoye II, Alado of Ado-Awaye, to continue with the conferment of chieftaincy titles on 10 Fulanis in the community.
The youths raised concerns over the security of town and expansion of Fulanis in their own community. The leadership of the Movement through a letter issued and signed by its President, Abdul-Azeez Oluwaseun Ajibola and General Secretary, Zainab Temileyi Olalekan alleged that they were not consulted or involved in the process that birthed the chieftaincy titles for Fulanis in their community. The youths alleged that the appointment of 10 Fulanis contravene the established in traditional customs, historical practices and due process.

The Youths strongly warned that the appointment of 10 Fulanis as chiefs in the community poses a threat to peace. They said the appointment will no doubt undermine unity, cultural heritage and social harmony in the community. The group noted that confirmation of Chieftaincy Title on Fulani individuals will in due course lead to claims of indigenous status in Ado-Awaye.

The group in its press statement demands immediate reversal of the controversial chieftaincy appointment made by Alado of Ado-Awaye, Oba Rev’d Ademola Olugbile Folakanmi Makuledoye II. The group called on the traditional monarch to suspend the second phase of the traditional chieftaincy exercise and called for strict adherence to customary laws, traditions and due process in all future chieftaincy appointments in Ado-Awaye.
