…Sympathize with National Coordinator, Asoju Ọdọ Alawode Rahmon Akintunde
The Yoruba Council of Youths Worldwide (YCYW – Ìgbìmọ̀ Àpapọ̀ Ọdọ Yorùbá Lágbàáyé), the foremost umbrella body representing Yoruba youths globally, has expressed deep grief over the passing of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Owolabi Akinloye Olakulehin, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, who joined his ancestors in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025.
In an official statement made available to the press by the Council’s Publicity Secretary and Spokesman, Ogbeni Ajibode Abd’kabir, the YCYW described the monarch’s departure as an irreparable loss to Ibadanland and the entire Yoruba Nation.
“Oba Olakulehin’s reign, though brief, brought with it peace, stability, and cultural pride. He was a unifying symbol of tradition and progress, deeply respected for his humility, wisdom, and commitment to the development of Ibadanland and Yorubaland at large,” the statement noted.
Ajibode added: “The news of Kabiyesi’s passing was received with shock and sadness by the Yoruba youth across the world. Though we recently celebrated his 90th birthday, his departure reminds us of the sovereignty of God over life and time.”
On behalf of all Yoruba youths worldwide, the Council extended heartfelt condolences to: The Government and good people of Oyo State, the Olubadan-in-Council, All sons and daughters of Ibadanland, and especially to the Council’s visionary National Coordinator, Asoju Ọdọ Alawode Rahmon Akintunde, a proud son of Ibadanland, alongside other Ibadan-born leaders and members of YCYW.
The Yoruba Council of Youths Worldwide stands in solidarity with the entire Ibadan community in this solemn period and prays for God’s comfort and grace for all those affected.
