Senator Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi has paid tribute to the tireless workforce of Oyo State and Nigeria at large, commending their resilience and dedication amidst the nation’s ongoing economic challenges.
Okanlomo of Ibadaland lauded the contributions of civil servants, artisans, traders, and all categories of labourers who continue to drive local development despite mounting financial pressures.
In his address, Senator Akanbi highlighted the spirit of endurance exhibited by workers across both the public and private sectors. “Our nation’s progress depends on the sweat and commitment of the everyday worker,” he said.
“Even as inflation bites and resources are stretched thin, you have shown remarkable fortitude in keeping our schools open, hospitals operating, and markets bustling.”

Senator Akanbi did not shy away from acknowledging the severe impact of economic hardship on ordinary Nigerians. He noted that rising living costs and currency devaluation have strained household budgets and threatened job security in many industries. “These are trying times,” he admitted. “Yet, you have refused to yield to discouragement, often finding creative ways to sustain your families and communities.”
Recognizing that the workforce extends beyond those currently employed, Senator Akanbi also took the opportunity to honor pensioners—men and women who once laboured in the nation’s service. “Our pensioners laid the groundwork for the progress we enjoy today,” he remarked. “They deserve our deepest respect and must be cared for with the dignity befitting their contributions.”
In closing, Senator Akanbi urged both government and private organizations to enhance support measures for workers and pensioners alike. He called for more robust social safety nets, fair wage adjustments, and prompt pension disbursements. “By investing in those who have built and sustained our society,” he concluded, “we secure a stronger and more prosperous future for Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole.
