The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, FAS, mni, has observed that the present set of Student Union leaders in the University of Ibadan have displayed a high sense of purposefulness.
The Vice-Chancellor stated this when he formally opened for use, a new borehole dug for the Student Union complex, the Kunle Adepeju Building.
The Vice-Chancellor noted and commended members of the Student Union Executive Committee for portraying good character and peaceful leadership throughout and resilience after the eight-month national strike embarked upon by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
He was elated that the union portrayed purposeful unionism and cooperated with the Management to promote peaceful co-existence within the University community. He noted that their cooperation will continue to be of relevance in the system and assured that Management and the students will remain partners in progress.
Prof Adebowale said the borehole was dug in a bid to promote a conducive environment and make water, a necessary social amenity available for students and tenants in the Student Union Building complex.
He urged the students to keep watch over the usage and maintenance of the borehole and its appurtenances so as to enjoy and preserve them for long.
The President of the Student Union, University of Ibadan, Mr Adeyinka Adewole said the Kunle Adepeju Student Union Building has been in existence for over 40 years but had stopped enjoying water supply in the last 12 years. This, he said was what brought about the construction of the borehole worth over One Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N1,500.000.00) for the building.
He appreciated the cooperation of the University Management to make the campus more comfortable for the students and called for more of such projects for the students.
