The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, is confident for a new era of leadership, and one candidate stands out for his commitment to collective progress and journalistic excellence: Akeem Babatunde Abass, popularly known as Alakime.
Abass’ declaration of intent is built on a foundation of sincerity, service and a desire to strengthen journalism in Oyo State. As a seasoned journalist and News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Correspondent, he brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the challenges facing journalists in the State. He effectively worked with me during my tenure as the Director of Public Communication, University of Ibadan. During the period, he exhibited professionalism and well-mannered character.

Abass acknowledges the solid foundation laid by past leaders of Oyo NUJ and pledges to consolidate their achievements, charting a more progressive and inclusive future for the union. Abass’ leadership style is characterised by issue-based campaigning, free from bitterness and division. He is committed to maintaining the NUJ’s apolitical and professional stance, built on fairness and mutual respect.
Abass’ vision, experience and commitment to collective progress make him the ideal candidate to lead Oyo NUJ. He has the pulse of journalists and understands the challenges facing the profession.
