The Executive Chairman of Oyo East Local Government Area, Hon. Prince Arowosaye Saheed Adeyemi has reacted to locking of Atiba Hall for Skimeh’s Medical Outreach Programme.
Hon. Arowosaye reacted through a statement signed by his S.A on Media and Publicity, Hon. Adeyemi Ibrahim Olojule.
has been drawn to a malicious report making the rounds in some quarters that he prevented the member representing Oyo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Prince Akeem Adeniyi Adeyemi from using the Atiba town hall for his medical outreach programme.
Arowosaye stated that Atiba hall belongs to Oyo East Local Government Area. Arowosaye said he discovered when he assumed office that there were no records of payments made to the council in respect of the facility for the whole 8 years of APC administration.
Arowosaye said there is no justification to allow people use the facility free of charge. He said anyone willing to use the hall is expected to apply and pay a sum of N20,000 only to local government purse.
“It is on record that the organizers of the said event have no time to formally apply to use the hall. The Chairman was informed by his staff overseeing the facility that some people forcefully entered the facility and started setting up their canopies.
“On getting to the place, the chairman politely explained to the organizers that there are procedures for using the facility which they disregarded and therefore urged them to remove their canopies and chairs until a formal request has been submitted and payment made to the council to use the facility.
“While the Chairman welcomes any intervention to improve the living conditions of the good people of Oyo East Local Government Area, it is imperative to state that the chairman is not against anyone using the facility irrespective of their political, religious, and social affiliations. His position remains that anyone that intends to use the facility must follow the laid down guidelines for using the facility.
“Members of the public are therefore advised to ignore such poor attempt to tarnish the image of the Chairman and undermine the peace in the local government”.
