The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, has inaugurated the Local Organising Committee and other Sub-Committees of the Federation of African Universities Sports (FASU) 8th Afro-Vasity 3×3 Basketball Challenge and 3rd Badminton Showdown.

The Chairman of the University of Ibadan Sports Council, Professor M.A. Ajayi, who conducted the inauguration ceremony on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, disclosed that the University of Ibadan has attended three editions of the Afro-Vasity 3×3 Basketball Challenge; one edition in Ethiopia and two editions in Uganda.

He added that in 2018, the UI team got to the semi-final, which qualified the team to represent Africa at the World University Championships held in Huaqiao University, Xiamen, China.

Professor Ajayi stated that the eighth edition of the challenge and showdown has been scheduled to hold in the University of Ibadan in 2026, and members of the Local Organising Committee and the sub-committees have been carefully selected from UI, other universities, the Oyo State Ministry of Sports and the Oyo State Sports Council to drive different aspects of the competition.

The Chairman said the appointment of members of the committees was a testament to their individual experiences, exceptional qualities and commendable track records of achievements, expressing the confidence that they will bring these qualities to bear on their activities.

The Local Organising Committee is to be chaired by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Professor Peter O. Olapegba, FNPA, fspsp

The various Sub-Committees and their chairmen are:

• Programme, Protocol, and Ceremonial Committee – Professor Adenike Akinjobi
• Facilities Committee – Professor J.O. Ajiboye
• Technical Committee – Mr. O.K. Eyiomo
• Accreditation Committee – Mrs. Abiodun Alao
• Media and Publicity Committee – Professor Ademola Lewis
• Security Committee – Professor S.G. Jonathan
• Medical and Health Committee – Dr Aderonke Ajav
• Accommodation, Catering, Welfare and Games Village Management Committee – Professor I. A. Abiona
• Finance Committee – Professor A.O. Omole
• Transport Committee – Professor O. Olajide
