The Chairman, Abib Olamitoye Group, Dr Abib Olamitoye, has charged the 2023 graduands of the University of Ibadan to make saving their strategy for survival as their savings will be the saving arms that will carry them through life.
Delivering the commencement keynote speech on Day 1 of the 2023 Convocation Ceremonies of the University of Ibadan, Dr. Abib, an alumnus of the University, said it was the strategy of saving that has helped him thus far to grow in his field and into a business tycoon.
He noted that they can start to fulfil their dreams by starting small with the little they are able to gather instead of seeking jobs that do not exist in the public domain.
Dr. Abib admonished the graduands not to stop reading but that they should read books that are in line with their focus and books that will show them the way.
He noted that it is always better to learn and apply the knowledge than to do trial and error that will waste their time and lead them into more error.
Dr. Abib also counselled them to be strategic in their thinking and learn how to set achievable goals.
The Valedictorian, Miss Ayo Daphne Adeola, a graduate of the Department of Classics, was full of gratitude to God for the completion of their academic programmes and their achievements.
Ayo noted that their achievements are a result of the collective efforts of all the academic and non-teaching staff of the University, as well as parents, guardians, and friends who contrubuted to their successful journey on campus.
She noted that this affirms the old adage that “it
takes a village to raise a child.”
Ayo said she learnt the importance of communal living during the course of her study on campus and encouraged her fellow graduates to cherish this.
Ayo encouraged her fellow graduands to give back to their alma mater.
Prizes were given to best graduating students from various faculties. Other prizes and awards were also presented.
