The Federal Government has inaugurated the Governing Council and Principal Officers of the Federal University of Environment and Technology, Koroma/Saakpenwa, Rivers State, at the TETFund Auditorium, Abuja.

Boriowo Folasade, Director, Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Education made this known in a press release for the Ministry.

Hon. Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, CON, described the university as a “strategic response to urgent environmental challenges”, noting its location in the heart of Nigeria’s resource base will drive research in environmental sciences, renewable energy, climate change adaptation, disaster risk management, and sustainable technology.

Though absent from the 2025 budget, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, directed that funds be sourced for immediate takeoff, with TETFund approving the grant. First students will be admitted in September 2025.

Dr. Alausa urged the Council to provide visionary, merit-based leadership, uphold autonomy, and resist interference, while focusing on excellence, faculty development, partnerships, and community engagement.

The Minister of State for FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure, representing Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, called the university a “beacon of innovation and practical solutions”.

Permanent Secretary Mr. Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, Senator Barry Mpigi, NUC’s Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu, and Pro-Chancellor Prof. Don Mon Baridam all pledged support.

The FG reaffirmed commitment to funding, research, and reforms to build a world-class institution.
